| You're Killing Us Both |
by Hailey Alcaraz |
Every night I watch you die.
I lead you to your coffin
And pull the sheets to you chin.
I set flowers on your nightstand
And ignore the loss growing within.
You only live once
But you die a thousand times over.
You let the indecision drown you
And you stumble to the gallows
To pull the trigger and just let go.
Your bones are rotting away
Beneath your decaying flesh.
Your coffin's ajar and the dirt is churned
And your mangled heart is beating
"I might love you tomorrow".
So I fall asleep on your headstone
And place my kisses on the epitaph.
I keep my black dress clean
And refuse polite condolences.
You are not dead, you are not alive.
Please make up your mind.
Retreat into the soil and surrender
To the poison that has stolen your heart.
Or forget the funeral and the doubt
And come back to me.
You're killing us both.
