Not everything is easy
Not everything is perfect.
Dreams can shatter,
Hopes can smash,
But we pick up the pieces
And make our lives whole.

The rough edges show strength
And scars from the past.
They tell the stories
Of how things were
And why things changed
From the way they used to be.

Those rough points hurt
When you go back over them.
They stir up memories
And forgotten dreams,
As the pain reminds us
Of everything we've been through.

As time wears on,
The edges smooth out,
The memories fade,
And the pain lessens,
But those scarred edges
Permanently leave their mark.
