Tiger

I
Am
Garrett Horton
I
am a hunter.
I
wonder where the elk are bedding down tonight.
I
hear the elk bugle to one another as in challenge or help.
I
see the elk creep silently through the woods and ravines.
I
want the wait to end and the hunt to begin.
I
am a hunter.
I
pretend to be part of the quiet, peaceful wilderness.
I
feel the elk sensing my presence.
I
touch my trigger with the sensation of victory flowing through
my blood.
I
worry if my shot was precise enough for a clean kill.
I
cry for the next season to approach quickly.
I
am a hunter.
I
understand the cycle of life and death.
I
say thank you to the successful elk harvest.
I
dream of taking a son hunting one day.
I
try to capture these memories to reflect upon.
I
hope I will always be able to enjoy the hunt.
I
am a hunter. |
